Overdraft claims – Mass Hearing

Friday 29th June 2007

Over 200 people have been asked to appear at a joint hearing to be heard in courtrooms throughout the country including Leeds Mercantile Court in West Yorkshire. So far in previous mass hearings heard only 2 individuals have failed to win their case against leading banks.

This is the latest trend that follows on from the wave of previously seen litigation cases against major financial institutions with customers suing over the number of charges they have been paying generally for unauthorised overdrafts.

Many of these cases are disputing sums that run into the thousands and claimants are arguing that the amount of charges claimed by banks are excessive and contravene consumer protection laws.

The mass hearings are as a result of the backlog of claims that need to be dealt with by magistrates up and down the land.
