Set in the warm seas of the Mediterranean and just 25 miles from its neighboring island Menorca, Majorca has swiftly become one of the leading tourist destinations. The island is diverse in what it has to offer, meaning that all tastes can be catered for. Whether you are looking for a family holiday, a quiet break or a fun-filled trip with your friends, Majorca has something to offer everyone.
Located off the east coast of Spain, Majorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands and its position makes it ideal for comfortable weather conditions. If its sunshine and heat you are after then the best time to go is in July and August when temperatures can reach highs of 30 degrees Celsius. Throughout the rest of the year, the island is generally quite mild, rarely dropping below 10 degrees Celsius in the winter months. If the summer temperatures are too much to tolerate, then visiting the island in May or June might be a better option. It is still warm at around 20 degrees Celsius, but not unbearable.
Despite being busy due to its popularity, Majorca has much to offer the tourist no matter what you are looking to do. The south of the island is generally more lively and aimed at a younger crowd than other parts of the island. The twin resorts of Magaluf and Palma Nova are the most popular places to go for those looking for a good nightlife and very little rest. Whilst the beaches are still pleasant and the sea still inviting, the pubs and clubs are the main reason why many choose to go to this area of the island, making it less suitable for families and those looking for a more relaxed atmosphere. Cala Millor and Cala Bona on the east coast of the island are much more suited to those looking for some peace and quiet on their holiday. The beaches in this area are considered to be the best on the island, boasting soft white sands and clear blue waters.
Whilst Majorca has a lot to offer in terms of the beaches (it does have over 80 after all) there are also many other attractions of the island. Palma is an ideal place to visit if history and architecture are what you are after. It is an ancient city that plays host to a beautiful cathedral. It also offers bus tours for those that want to experience some culture.
Theme parks and water parks are also very popular and not lacking across Majorca. Marineland and Aquacity are among the best, offering a good day out with the chance to see dolphin shows. If you can’t quite drag yourself away from the stunning beaches however, they also give the opportunity to do much more than top up your tan. Almost all of the beaches on the island offer a whole range of watersports from windsurfing to diving to snorkeling.
The Palma de Majorca Airport is used by many airlines offering cheap flights. It is positioned just outside the island’s capital city, Palma and is easily accessible to all of the resorts across the island.
For a relaxing, fun or lively holiday, Majorca has enough to keep everyone interested and somewhere for everyone to stay no matter what you are looking for in a holiday.
