Graduates
Today more than 40% of the population enter further education and so the graduate job market is competitive. A number of websites and agencies have grown up to cope with the yearly influx of graduates to the job market, and there are plenty of resources on offer.
On your search for graduate jobs you will come across these things:
- Graduate Training Schemes - Special schemes where employers take on graduates and train them to do a job, rather then expecting them to have the relevant expertise already.
- Milk round - When a selection of employers visit a University to present job opportunities and recruit and interview prospective employees.
- Internships - When you go and work at a company or organisation for a fixed period of time, to gain experience. Internships are sometimes paid and sometimes unpaid.
For prospective employers, work experience can be as important as degree results, so it is well worthwhile getting some experience under your belt whilst you're studying.
But just because you are a 'graduate' you don't have to restrict yourself to graduate schemes - you are entitled to apply for all jobs. It's up to you to choose what suits you best.
