Elvis Record Smashed By Mariah
Thursday 3rd April 2008 Mariah Carey has beaten the record set by Elvis Presley by reaching number one for the 18th time in her career.
Her new single Touch My Body, from the album E=MC2 has hit the top spot in both the Billboard Hot 100 chart and the download chart.
Elvis had 17 number ones and now lies in third place behind Mariah with 18. The Beatles still lead however with a record breaking 20 number one singles.
Mariah aged 38 had her first hit in 1994 with Without You and sang with Irish chart toppers West Life on the popular Phill Collin’s classic Against All Odds.
Mariah has played down her achievement stating that record sales are no longer her top priority.
