Ebay Asked To Stop Sale Of Diets
Monday 3rd March 2008 Doctors have made a plea to the auction site Ebay this week to remove listings of the extreme diet Lighter Life from their site.
Lighter Life a Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD) in which foodpacks including milkshakes, soups and flavoured bars are taken instead of food should not be used by those who are unsupervised doctors say.
The diet which claims that you will lose 3 stone in 100 days will see participants consume less than 500 calories a day and works by forcing the body into a state of ketosis.
The diet should only be conducted under supervised conditions and your doctor must give you a health check before you begin. The product should then only be bought through a reputable retailer who will check on your wellbeing weekly.
Ebay claim they are doing nothing wrong by keeping this diet on their site and are refusing to ban the product. A similar product called The Cambridge Diet is also causing problems and could also put people’s health at risk.
