As Summer leaves and Winter approaches Autumn is the perfect time to reinvent your look with a brand new hair colour - I'm planning to add some nice caramel bits to mine! I’ve put together a page of tips to help you find the perfect hair colour to suit you and then find the right shades of make-up to match your new do! The hot make-up colours for this season as seen on the catwalks are plums for nails, metallic for eyes and bright red for lips – just not all at the same time!!! Make sure you chose the right hues for you by taking into account your skin tone, eye colour and of course your brand spanking new hair colour.
Choosing Your Colour
- Find pictures you like in magazines and tear them out – trawl the web and look for a range of shades that you think will suit you.
- Try to ignore the style; just look for the hair colours you love. You may hate the celeb but she might have the perfect hair colour for you.
- Decide if you want an all over colour or want to opt for highlights instead – if you are happy with your base colour a little bit of colour could be all you need to add extra depth.
- Holding different colours up to your face gives you an idea of how your skin tone will look against your new colour – if you get the chance head to your local department store and try on a wig or two.
- Ask the colourist if they think your choice of colour is right. Be open to advice, as their experience could prove helpful.
- Be brave. Colour can easily be resolved if it goes wrong. The professionals can assess your hair’s condition, and tell you what is best for your hair type.
Autumn Make-up For Coloured Hair
Compliment your hair colour with the right make-up – a vast arrange of autumn shades are soon to be on the shelves, so you can experiment with the best make up to suit your hair and skin tone.
Blondes
DO: Go for vivid lip colour pinks and nudes work beautifully with a fair skin tone and where a red hot choice on the catwalk this season.
DON’T: Over bronze or tan your skin, as this can make you look brassy – winter is the time to be pale and interesting so use this chance to let your skin breath.
Brunettes
DO: Go for bronze shades that complement your warmer skin tone – try a matte base and use a highlighter to enhance your features. Experiment with a wide range of colours a brunette can get away with a wide variety of shades.
DON’T: Wear anything too citrus on your lips – warmer colours such as reds and plums will compliment your hair.
Redheads
DO: Choose warm, earthy shades such as deep browns and golds. – If you have a red hue to your skin make sure you choice a neutral, soft foundation which will hide the redness in your cheeks.
DON’T: Wear highlighting products on brows or cheeks as this may reflect your hair colour and exaggerate the pinky tones in your skin.
Very Dark/Black Hair
DO: Wear rich warm shades or go for the shock factor and try some of the many bright colours that are currently in stores – these will look great against your skin. If you are after a more traditional look though a smoky effect with greys and blacks can really complement dark hair (just make sure you don’t end up looking too much like a panda!)
DON’T: Use a too-light shade on your lips it’ll wash you out – this seasons bright reds are perfect for you but make sure you choice it carefully – a deep red will look much better than an orangey one.
